Dee – veterinary surgeon mvb bvm&s pgc(exap) pgc(veted) ba(zoo)

Dee is our veterinary surgeon and practice owner. She was always animal mad, from ponies, dogs and rabbits to saving the mice from her cats. Growing up, Dee’s family always figured she’d grow out of it at some point. They are still waiting for this to happen! Dee spent 10 years in the UK, studying in Edinburgh, then working as a vet in a top tier Somerset veterinary hospital before returning home to Meath in 2017. Dee is passionate about her vocation as a vet and has spent a lot of time developing her skills and acquiring further qualifications and certifications. Dee is fear-free certified, meaning that she has undertaken a period of study enabling her to ensure that pets coming to see her are as calm and content as is possible. Dee has degrees in both Zoology (BAZoo, Trinity College Dublin) and Veterinary Medicine (BVM&S, R(D)CVS, Edinburgh), as well as post-graduate qualifications in Veterinary Education and Exotic Animal Studies. After working locally and having two wonderful children, Dee decided that she wanted to fulfil her veterinary vision and set about creating Acorn House Veterinary Clinic. The Clinic is very much a family project with Dee’s husband Andy behind the scenes and you might even meet her two little assistants (aged 3 and 1) helping out on reception!

ellen – registered veterinary nurse

Ellen is a very experienced veterinary nurse, qualifying in 2000. In 2009, she furthered her studies, achieving a BSc from NUIM. Ellen loves all aspects of the job and areas of special interest to her include Medical Nursing especially taking care of ageing pets, Dentistry, Wound Management and Nurse Clinics.

Ellen says “One of the best parts of the job is that you are continously learning in order to maintain the highest standards for pets and their owners in our care. I have completed additional education in Wound Care – DDIWs (Delving Deeper into Wounds Course) offered by the British Veterinary Nursing Association in 2018. I have also completed Waltham Oral Care Nursing Course which covers all aspects of Nursing Dental Care.
In my free time I enjoy outdoor activities and training my puppy “Alfie” on what not to chew in the garden!”

Lizzy – Registered veterinary nurse

Lizzy comes from Blanchardstown and like Ellen has worked as a senior veterinary nurse in busy Dublin clinics. Lizzy has a keen interest in exotics and is completing a post-graduate certificate in this field, which is one of the reasons she chose to join our team. Lizzy also loves cats and dogs, owning one of each and enjoys walking and hiking. Her favourite Christmas song is Feliz Navidad!

Annmarie – client care team

Annmarie is originally from Dublin and has worked with animals for over 15 years. After completing an animal care course she began working for animal charities such as the Blue cross and the DSPCA.

A complete animal lover and people person, she enjoys helping clients and seeing the bond between owners and their beloved pets.  Annmarie has fostered many rescue cats and dogs and has a 6-year-old Jack Russell of her own called Sally.

Lorraine – client care team

Lorraine joined our team in September. She is a very experienced veterinary receptionist and animal lover. Lorraine values mindfulness and teaches classes in this area alongside her work in the clinic. She loves working with both animals and people and is guaranteed to give you a warm welcome as you come in the door. Lorraine is also a talented artist, responsible for our window decorations at different times of the year!

percy the practice pooch

Percy is Dee’s little rescue dog. He came from a hoarding situation in January 2019 as a puppy and Dee adopted him from the ISPCA. By the power of social media we have since tracked down his Mum and one of his sisters, all also happily adopted.

Percy’s habits include stealing toys from the children, chasing Dee’s cats and urinating inappropriately. Despite (or maybe because of) the fact that he is owned by a vet, Percy is notoriously badly behaved and still does not sit on command. Luckily, he’s quite a decent little chap otherwise and loves cats, dogs, people and especially kids. Just don’t let him near your good shoes.
